Projects

Dear Friends of the Buea Metropolitan Library,

Summer is almost here and I am happy to announce that we have some very exciting and informative activities and programs planned for you in July. The library is 10 years old this year, and I am excited about celebrating our tenth anniversary throughout the summer with you.

First, I’d like to tell you of some of the seminars we have planned.

“HOW TO TEACH THE UNPREPARED STUDENT”

The thrust of this seminar is in promoting functional literacy.

“DOMESTIC VIOLENCE”

Women need courage, determination and support to free themselves and their children from the scourge of domestic violence. They also need to begin to regain their self-esteem, learn to achieve self sufficiency, and rebuild their lives

“WOMEN EMPOWERMENT”

Every citizen has a right to participate in and benefit from the national economic development. However, for most women this right is denied because of their lack of economic self reliance, access to employment and appropriate working conditions, and control over economic resources such as land, capital, and technology.

“ADULT EDUCATION”

Basic education (ability to read and write) opens up avenues of communication that would otherwise be closed. Adult education expands personal choice and control over one’s environment and gives them the tools they need to move from exclusion to full participation in society.

“MOTIVATING THE UNMOTIVATED STUDENT”

“CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT”

Aside from these seminars, we are planning to have a party for the orphanage at some point, and soccer games sponsored by the Library. And of course we will continue to host anniversary celebrations for couples who have been married for over 50 years. Our free screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes and HIV/AIDS will continue to be available.

I am looking forward to seeing you soon at the seminars, parties, and special events we have planned for the Library this summer. I am now actively seeking funds and donations toward a new building in which to house electronic hardware, computers with internet access, more reading space and more staff. Please continue to make use of and patronize our services. Your visible presence there and your continued eagerness to see us expand and grow is a signal to would-be donors and contributors that their contributions are sincerely needed and appreciated.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mike Fonge
