How Can You Help

Dear Friends of the Buea Metropolitan Library,

On behalf of the Buea Metropolitan Library, I would like to thank you for your generous support and gifts over the past ten years. Your commitment to help promote literacy and health awareness in Africa in our particular community is sincerely appreciated.

Each year the Buea Metropolitan Library continues to advance its mission to promote literacy and health awareness. Through our programs, seminars and the continuing acquisition of books for all ages, we have seen many lives changed for the better.

But I’ll get to the point.

We still need your help.

We have long outgrown our Library. We are in extreme need of new and permanent building, a structure that will be there for generations to come. As it is, reading space and shelving for books is scarce. We also need offices, an audiovisual room and conference rooms. We are slowly but surely collecting electronic hardware such as computers, scanners, printers, fax, photocopy machines, and projectors, new or used.

But most of all, we need you.

Libraries have a major role in empowering people through the provision of knowledge, education and information. They perform a particular service for groups or individuals in the community who are unable to use regular library services. We intend to cooperate with the educational sector to be instrumental in offering children and young people access to books, encouraging them to understand the importance of reading for knowledge as well as for pleasure. Students and non-students alike continue to regularly make use of and patronize our Library. Development of literacy allows people to take advantage of information technology, thus helping to bridge the gap between the “information rich” and the “information poor.” We have come such a long way in the past ten years. You cannot know how much your help is appreciated. We could not have made it this far without you.

You have been so caring and quick to help in the past; I know I can count on you to help us once again. Your investment and contributions will provide dividends for years to come.

Again, thank you for standing with us in the fight against illiteracy. And not only that – thank you for understanding that we must all strive together to eradicate illiteracy globally. Jimmy Carter once said that “every adult illiterate is an indictment of us all.” Please continue to be a part of the solution.

Monetary contributions, donated equipment, and many more books are needed as we continue to grow and expand. Anything you can do to help is welcome and extremely appreciated.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.
